All buildings are beautiful

The demolition of the Vienna University of Economics and Business campus at Althangrund could become Vienna’s largest demolition-and-rebuild project of the decade. An aging university complex is set to make way for a new, sustainable educational campus. This careless approach to existing structures, and the carbon stored within them, is emblematic for an era in which we continue to cling to concepts of the past, despite the accelerating climate crisis. To shoot ALL BUILDINGS ARE BEAUTIFUL, Christoph Schwarz spent a year in the building as an interim user. Slow camera movements allow viewers to experience its spaces, while Suse Lichtenberger’s voice-over speaks of the people campaigning to save the building.
