Ben is nine years old today. To celebrate, his father allows him to choose three sweets on a trip to the supermarket. But Ben’s childlike innocence is clouded when, shortly afterwards, he observes his father being accosted by a strange man at the checkout. From the distance, Ben doesn’t understand much, but his father’s background seems to play a role. Ben doesn’t know exactly what has happened, but for the first time he realizes the fact that something has happened.
