What exactly is this “service” that the Employment Service, as it calls itself, is supposed to provide? And above all, for whom? Certainly not for the “customers” Marie Wotruba and Mahdiya Sayegh, who have some very particular experiences there.
At 58, Marie can’t find a job in the modern working world and is barely able to get back on her feet. Mahdiya, meanwhile, wants to become a police officer, but as a woman with a migrant background, that is something Kathi from Employment Services can’t really imagine. So Marie and Mahdiya, together with others who have been similarly let down, decide to take their fate into their own hands. And just like that, what could have been a bleak social drama turns into an offbeat musical.
