Muss das Pferd auch arbeiten?

What makes shepherding special is that you do everything yourself, Valeria says. From birth to breeding and, at times, even slaughtering. Valeria is a wandering shepherd. She is the sister of the filmmaker Leonhard Pill and the central figure of the film. Valeria leads a life that differs radically, in every conceivable way, from that of her siblings – beside Leonhard, she has a sister named Fidelia. Valeria lives in a caravan, with no running water, and earns minimum wage. Whatever the weather, she is outside with her dogs and her sheep. She scouts out the available grazing land, or rather feeding grounds, spins the sheep’s wool, delivers baby lambs as a midwife, trims hooves, slaughters, cuddles with the sheep, and talks to them.
