Q&A

QRT – a condensed existence of the 90s in Berlin, sleepless and aimless, analyzing the themes of the time. Techno and heroin, heroes and saints, comics and film, philosophy and performance. He turned himself into a subject of radical living, too close, too intense.

This documentary approaches QRT’s life and crafts an anecdotal biography through interviews with friends who look back on their shared time up to QRT’s tragic drug-related death in ‘96. Excerpts from his texts, published posthumously by Merve Verlag, are also presented.

This film is not a search for truth but an obituary. QRT himself becomes a zombie who resurrects and haunts the film, entirely in line with the zombology he developed. QRT wrote: “Those who are dead cannot speak about it. Those who are still alive and speak of death do not know what they are talking about. Now we find ourselves as the undead, meaning we are too dead to speak, but too alive to endure our silence.” Thus, we should seize the opportunity to listen to a dead person; he has a lot to say.
