Set in a rural village in southern China, shaped by migration and absence, the film follows an 18-year-old boy on the threshold of adulthood, whose memories and observations are reflected in the lives of four children from the same village. A series of fleeting childhood memories portray adolescence as a sequence of emotional wounds.
The individual episodes portray the young characters in seemingly insignificant yet defining moments of emotional pressure. They revolve around longing for absence, loneliness, family rifts, and the subtle shock of growing up, even before one can find the words to make sense of what has happened.
