By chance, in 1999, doctoral student Ingmar Hoerr discovered the groundbreaking mRNA vaccine technology in a small laboratory at the University of Tübingen, a technology that today protects people around the world from Covid-19 and offers hope in the fight against cancer and rare diseases. But at the time, no one believed in his vision. On the contrary, Nobel Prize winners and experts mocked him as a quack. Yet Hoerr refused to be discouraged and founded CureVac, the very company that, shortly after the outbreak of the Covid pandemic, found itself on the major international stage. Just before the pandemic reached Germany, Hoerr was summoned to the Chancellery in Berlin to help ward off the approaching catastrophe. But fate took a different turn … A film about great visions, successes, setbacks and new beginnings.
